Just barely missing the release date cut-off to be one of my favourite tracks of 2014, “Lonely Stars in Open Skies” and its equally incredible Endless remix have a special place in the audio archive of my heart. Jon Charnis, known for melodically magical creations like “Prophecy,” and more recently the gorgeous “Marimba,” along with the prolific Maher Daniel, noted for our other #TBT track “Farewell at the Gates of Dawn,” and recent fire “A Call from Within,” had together combined their Powers of Awesome to create a stunning jewel of a tune. Strongly associated with Burning Man, festivals such as BPM, and sets by… well, pretty much everyone, ranging from Dixon to Lee Burridge to Ame to Tennis, to name a few, this track and its remixed successor have created amazing dancefloor vibes worldwide, and are still being played often today.

The great late Robin Williams’ “August Rush” quote, “you know what music is? God’s little reminder that there’s something else besides us in this universe, a harmonic connection between all living beings, everywhere, even the stars,” set over a distinctly tropical rhythm, conjures up images of dancing carefree on a beach, smiles, looking up at the stars in wonder- or for some of us, brings back the memories of doing so. “The stars are so far away it takes light years and years to reach us… so when you look at the stars, you see the past.” The gorgeous steel-drum sounding synths and bonfire drum-circle-channelling percussion make this such a uniquely beautiful and hypnotic track.

Enter Luca Bacchetti’s remix- the mesmeric swaying has evolved into full-on dancing, as the tribalesque rhythm is kicked up a notch. The track spends much of its time travelling patiently and elegantly to a drawn-out, anticipatory breakdown, before finally breaking loose at 6:26 to a completely blissful minute or so of absolute dancing splendour.
